Thank you all so much for all your words of love and encouragement on my blog. I've enjoyed reading all of them to Brian over this recovery period. We are home now, which is just incredible I know! But the truth is all they were doing in the hospital was oral medications and allowing rest. I can do that here and keep him much cleaner and at less risk for getting an infection. The more time he spent in that busy unit w/ MRSA patients everywhere the higher risk he was to pick something up. All in all though we really had incredible care at UVA. We couldn't have been more pleased w/ the hospital and it's staff. Every nurse, aid and even our docs were just so sweet and compassionate. The neuro surgeon came around eventually and the truth is we really don't care about his bedside manor, just that he's good w/ a knife inside the skull right?!? Brian's up and recovering because he's a skilled surgeon and God was with him in that OR. Sooooo, Brian is loving his new staff of "the best looking 2 nurses he's ever seen" w/ me and the Bit taking over his care. :) We got home yesterday afternoon and had an uneventful commute which was a God send. He slept for most of the evening and has been comfortable on his own couch ever since. His pain's doing great, his vision is slowly improving but will take time and his taste buds are well still about the same. He's just learning things that have some flavor. He has said he has some fleeting echo sensations in that left ear which we are encouraged by that he's hearing some voices at all although distorted. We'll see, time will tell. They told us at least a week for the swelling to go down and we can have any idea what may be left. His spirits are so much more up now then before and as we speak he's answering a morning assessment questionnaire w/ a Bit on his belly and watching what he can see of Fox News. Good mental picture huh!? I'm enjoying it too. :) Abigail is being so precious and gentle w/ him. She just loves to sit and snuggle up next to him. She'll bring him his little cup of meds and a drink when I hand them to her. And in a minute we are going to do her first dressing change. What a nurse she is already! So thanks again for all of you who have carried this with us. It's meant a lot to read your thoughts and know we had so much support through this. Brian and I love you all lots and want you to know we thank God for our sweet friends and family!!!!!!!

Allison- I'm a friend of Sue's and just wanted to let you know that I"ve been praying for you and your sweet family for the last several months - and especially since last week when Brian had his procedure. She just told me that you updated your blog, so I was thrilled to see the latest news! I can't believe you guys are home already - his incision is remarkable! I will continue to pray that his hearing WILL come back, and his vision to improve. I can only imagine the stress that you must be under as well, so I'm praying for the UNBELIEVABLE peace of God to overwhelm you - and for continued protection and innocence for your daughter and growing baby.

So glad you are home and the Bit gets to take care of her Daddy. That is so special! I know you two can take much better care of him. It is unbelievable the progress he has made so quickly. That is God all the way! I'm so happy and thankful.
Love you all,
Shelly
Allison, Brian and Abigail,
Just wanted to let you know that your family is in our continued prayers. It was awesome to hear that you are home and able to care for him on your own. It was precious to hear that your little one is able to help care for her daddy too. So sweet!! What a testimony of God's love and grace for your family. What a mighty God we serve. Still praying and believing for him to be 100% healthy and whole really soon!!
Much love to your family!!
Love,
Heidi

Muah!
Oh my gosh!!!!!! I cannot believe you are home already. Prayers do get answered. I know you can take really good care of him at home and he will feel so much better in his own house. Now I will have to admit that incision is something else........you know I am not the nurse in this family so I had to take a deep breath at what he has gone through!!!!! Unbelievable!!! Our Love To You All.....
Wow! That is one impressive wound!!!
So glad to hear that Brian's home and doing well. That's exciting that he has some echo-y stuff going on in that ear - that does seem hopeful! We too have discovered that neurosurgeons don't have the best bed side manner...we found one nice one up at uva...but you're right, as long as they're skilled with the knife, it's okay :)
We'll keep praying that this amazing recovery will just keep on being amazing :)
Now that's a battle scar! Whew!!!! Bless his heart. You know, for what he went through, that surgeon did a nice job. It looks like it's neat and after his hair grows back, I bet no one will ever see it. It was so good to see Brian's eye balls last night. He looks remarkable. We will keep praying for his recovery and for both of ya'll's strength. I look forward to playing with Abigail on Friday!
